Gender Stereotyping in the Film Industry

In the film industry, gender stereotyping continues to persist in the way women are portrayed.

A study showed that almost 75% of male characters had an identifiable occupation compared to less than 66% of female characters. And male protagonists were much more likely to be shown at work. Only just over 25% of the characters who were leaders were women.

The pay gap in Hollywood has also been a serious issue for a long time.

The most talented women in the industry have faced first-hand sexism and discrimination; from Jennifer Lawrence to Scarlett Johansson and even the legendary, Meryl Streep.
